Welcome to Moraga

The Town of Moraga, with a population of around 16,000, is nestled in a small valley, surrounded by the scenic Oakland-Berkeley hills. Covering an area of approximately nine and a half square miles, Moraga is conveniently located 11 miles southeast of Oakland and 18 miles southeast of San Francisco. Despite its proximity to urban centers, Moraga maintains a semi-rural character, with only four two-lane roads providing access to the town. In 1988, it was recognized as the safest city in the Bay Area by the California Department of Justice, and it's renowned for its peaceful, family-oriented lifestyle and top-notch schools.

Moraga's business community revolves around two neighborhood shopping centers, which are complemented by the town's residential areas and open hillsides where cattle graze and horses roam. A significant majority of the residences, approximately 84%, are single-family homes. The town's hillsides offer some of the most picturesque landscapes in Contra Costa County, and there's a notable absence of heavy industry. St. Mary’s College of California is the largest employer in Moraga.

Moraga boasts 40 acres of parks, including three major parks that offer various recreational activities and open spaces, in addition to a smaller creative playground. The town is a haven for horseback riding, hiking, and cycling, with several miles of public trails maintained by the East Bay Municipal Utilities District. Golf enthusiasts can enjoy the Moraga Country Club's 18-hole golf course, and there are both private and public swim and tennis facilities.

During the summer, the Moraga Commons hosts outdoor concerts featuring a mix of amateur and professional productions, providing entertainment for the community.
